Statistics by the National Association of Orthopedics Technologists in Kenya and humanitarian organizations indicate that with the number of amputees nationwide standing at 10,000, only 2 per cent of them can afford artificial limbs.
According to the report, 5 per cent of the total number of amputees can access the required medical speciality. This was revealed during a two-day free artificial limbs and measurement exercise held in Nairobi county, where over 500 people from across the country benefited from the program.
