The French company Wandercraft has developed the exoskeleton that enables paraplegics and other patients to "walk more naturally".
The exoskeleton called Atlante has received the necessary certificate in Europe known as MDR, which enables patients and medical personnel to use it, Telegrafi reports.
The exoskeleton also represents a step forward in the field of customized exoskeletons. The first generation of Wandercraft's exoskeleton years ago was introduced at a time when robotics has greatly advanced.
An exoskeleton is a (portable) robot that is customized for each user, and designed to assist in rehabilitation and treatment – namely restoring walking to patients.
Atlante is the second generation of the Wandercraft exoskeleton – it comes with a remote control as well as the app – through which I can remind the physiotherapist and the patient in detail of the exercise program.
It is powered by two sets of batteries that enable continuous use. The new model is smaller and more convenient for patients thanks to the new hardware - and part of it is the "smart" software.
This device is now self-balancing, easier to control for both patients and physiotherapists. Wandercraft maintains balance even when moving. Also now it is easier for the patient to get up.
Wandercraft aims for this exoskeleton to be a personalized device that can be used around the home and on the road. The French company has spent 45 million dollars to "accomplish the mission".
