A 50-year-old man from Thrissur, EC Vinod, defied all odds by running five kilometres on crutches at the Cultural Capital Marathon in Thrissur on Sunday, despite losing his leg to cancer.
Vinod, a resident of Arimpur, Thrissur, has been a passionate marathon runner for years. However, two years ago, cancer changed his life. While preparing for his dream run at the Mumbai Marathon, he was diagnosed with cancer, and his right leg had to be amputated above the knee.
Despite the challenges, Vinod refused to give up. He could not continue his job (tile works) after the amputation. However, his indomitable willpower and determination pushed him forward. With the support of the OVS Foundation, Vinod started driving an electric auto, regaining his independence.
Though his physical abilities had been limited, Vinod was determined to return to his passion for running. He trained every morning and evening, preparing himself for the impossible.
On Sunday, Vinod achieved the unimaginable: he completed the five-kilometre race in fifty minutes, using crutches. His victory was not just about crossing the finish line, but about his resilience and unyielding spirit.
