IN bringing inclusivity for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs), an Indian based company is currently camping at the Benjamin Mkapa Hospital (BMH) with a target to provide 300 artificial limbs donation to about 265 people.
The Kalpataru Projects International Limited (KPIL) said it was providing the artificial limbs at a free cost to needy physically challenged persons.
The exercise to supply the donation was facilitated by regional/district medical centres and village heads who identified PwDs from their areas in the regions of Shinyanga, Simiyu, Songea, Tunduru, Masasi, Handeni and Kilindi, among others.
Furthermore, understanding the mobility challenges of these beneficiaries, KPIL was making arrangement for transport, lodging and boarding expenses for all the PwDs from their native places to Dodoma and the camp.
After fitment of the artificial limbs which are light, the PwDs are able to walk on uneven terrain walk, run, trek, swim, squat, sit cross-legged, work in the muddy fields, climb trees and peddle bicycles like any other normal person.
The artificial limbs donation and fitment camp was inaugurated by the Minister for Health, Ms Jenister Mhagama at the end of the week.
Also in attendance were KPIL India Senior Vice President, Mr Saroj Kumar Sahoo, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) head Ms Anagha Poojari, Tanzania country manager, Mr Singaravel and BMH officials, among others.

The ongoing camp was organised by in association with Bhagwan Mahaveer Vikalang Sahayata Samiti (BMVSS), Jaipur Foot India which is a world’s renowned organisation for rehabilitation of PwDs and BMH.
